The Costume Institute’s much anticipated spring 2017 exhibit, Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: The Art of the In-between  was not only the Met’s main exhibit, but also the theme for the 2017 Met Gala. Featuring Rei Kawakubo, the first living designer to be the sole subject of the show since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983.

As one of the world’s most influential designers of the past 40 years, Rei Kawakubo has defined the aesthetics of our time. Kawakubo was featured as honorary chair alongside stars, Katy Perry Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour.

The theme of this year’s Met Gala was taken quite literally and experimentally. A variety of variations filled the red carpet – take a look at a few of our favorite looks of the star studded night!
